Description

Leteron Econ-O-Sign II E-O-S II Vinyl Sign Lettering System Helvetica Dies

The Leteron Econ-O-Sign II (model E-O-S II) is a manual, non-electric vinyl sign and label lettering system made by Reynolds/Leteron of North Hollywood, California. It uses the patented Letertape process: individual letter dies are loaded into the machine, lettering tape is threaded through, and hand-cranking the mechanism presses cut vinyl letters onto the tape carrier, which can then be transferred to any clean, smooth surface — metal, plastic, wood, or glass. This system requires no electricity and no computer, making it fully self-contained and portable.

Applications

The Leteron Econ-O-Sign II was designed for professional sign making without the need for electricity or a computer. Systems like this were widely used from the 1970s through the early 1990s in print shops, government agencies, schools, warehouses, and small businesses to create adhesive vinyl lettering for signs, labels, equipment panels, vehicle markings, and displays. The Letertape transfer process allowed crisp, consistent lettering on almost any smooth surface. By the mid-1990s, desktop vinyl cutters and computer-driven sign-making software began to replace manual die systems like the E-O-S II, making this an era-specific tool from pre-digital commercial sign production. These systems are still sought by collectors of vintage trade equipment and by hobbyists or small shops that prefer a non-digital, hands-on lettering method requiring no software or power supply.
