Applications

Shell-and-tube heat exchangers are the most widely used type of heat exchanger in industrial process applications. They transfer thermal energy between two fluid streams — one flowing through the tube bundle and the other through the surrounding shell — without the two fluids coming into direct contact. In steam boiler systems, they are commonly used to heat process water, generate hot water from steam, recover heat from condensate, or preheat feedwater. They also appear in HVAC systems, chemical processing plants, food and beverage facilities, power generation, and oil and gas operations. The horizontal, flanged design of this unit is typical of fixed-tube-sheet exchangers used in continuous-duty process heating loops, where the unit is piped in-line with existing process connections. The attached flow meter and thermocouple suggest this exchanger was previously instrumented and monitored as part of a controlled heating or cooling loop.

Condition: Used
This shell and tube heat exchanger has been pulled from a working industrial environment and shows moderate to heavy wear consistent with prior service use. The flanges, tube sheet face, and flange bolts display significant surface rust and oxidation, and the outer insulation cladding has a tear exposing the underlying insulation material. One large nozzle shows standing water/moisture inside the opening, and several braided flex hose ends show internal corrosion. The unit has not been bench-tested or pressure-tested at our facility. Included accessories — a Key Instruments rotameter (1–5 GPM / 60–300 GPH), a Thermocouple Technology Inc. (TTEC) thermocouple, braided flex hoses, and PVC SCH 40 fittings — are sold as-is with the unit. Please review all 18 photos carefully for a full picture of the cosmetic condition before purchasing.
