Applications

The Tissue-Tek II Vacuum Infiltrator was a standard piece of histology lab equipment used in hospital pathology departments, research institutions, and clinical laboratories during the 1970s and 1980s — the era when the Tissue-Tek line from Miles Laboratories was among the most widely adopted systems in histological specimen preparation. Vacuum infiltration is a critical step in the tissue processing workflow: by holding the specimen in molten paraffin under reduced atmospheric pressure, air and residual processing solvents are drawn out of the tissue matrix, producing well-infiltrated blocks that section cleanly under a microtome. The Model 4613 was also used for formalin fixation, making it a versatile benchtop unit for smaller labs. The aluminum slotted basket accommodates standard histology cassettes and tissue capsules.
