Description

Keyspan UPCI-2 USB 1.1 PCI Card 2-Port Apple G3 G4 Mac PC Expansion Card

The Keyspan UPCI-2 is a PCI expansion card that adds two USB 1.1 Type-A ports to any desktop computer with an available PCI slot. Made by Keyspan, a division of InnoSys, Inc., this card was a popular upgrade for Apple Power Mac G3 and G4 towers as well as compatible PCs during the early USB era. It provides two external USB 1.1 ports via a standard full-height bracket.

Applications

The Keyspan UPCI-2 was designed to add USB connectivity to Mac and PC desktops that lacked built-in USB ports or needed additional ports — most notably the Apple Power Mac G3 beige tower, which shipped before USB became standard on Apple hardware. It was also used in G4 towers and compatible PCs. USB 1.1 supports data rates up to 12 Mbps (Full Speed) and is compatible with the wide range of USB 1.1 peripherals from that era — mice, keyboards, scanners, cameras, and storage devices. While USB 1.1 has long since been superseded by USB 2.0 and later standards, these cards remain useful for legacy Mac and PC systems that still operate with period-correct USB 1.1 peripherals, or for collectors maintaining original Apple G3/G4 configurations.
