Applications
The Intel EtherExpress 16TP was part of Intel's EtherExpress line of ISA Ethernet adapters, introduced in the early-to-mid 1990s when ISA was the dominant expansion bus in IBM-compatible PCs. These cards were used to connect 286, 386, and 486-class desktop computers — and early Pentium systems still fitted with ISA slots — to 10Base-T Ethernet LANs running Novell NetWare, DOS LAN Manager, Windows for Workgroups, or early Windows NT networks. The 10Base-T twisted-pair interface made structured cabling practical in offices, replacing the thicker coaxial cable required by 10Base-2 (thinnet) installations. Today these cards are sought by collectors and administrators maintaining legacy ISA-bus systems, industrial PCs, CNC machines, and other equipment that still relies on ISA-slot network connectivity and cannot use modern PCI or PCIe adapters.
This Intel EtherExpress 16TP ISA LAN Adapter (PCLA8120, 304937-008) is in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it had been previously in service. The card shows light handling wear consistent with normal use; the PCB, ISA edge connector, RJ-45 port, and DB-15 AUI connector all appear intact with no visible damage.
