Applications
The IBM DGHS series are enterprise-grade 3.5-inch SCSI hard drives that were widely used in late-1990s and early-2000s Unix workstations and servers. Sun Microsystems routinely OEM'd IBM DGHS drives for use in systems such as the Sun Ultra, Sun Blade, Sun Fire, and StorEdge product lines, rebranding them under Sun part numbers. The Ultra160 SCSI standard, introduced in the late 1990s, delivers up to 160 MB/s sustained transfer rates over a Wide (68-pin or SCA-2 80-pin) SCSI bus, making these drives well suited to high-I/O environments typical of data centers and engineering workstations of that generation. Today these drives are most commonly sought by technicians maintaining or restoring legacy Sun Microsystems servers and SCSI-based storage arrays, as well as collectors of late-1990s enterprise hardware. The SCA-2 80-pin connector supports hot-swap operation in compatible Sun and third-party SCSI backplanes.
