Applications

The 74G0851A is part of IBM's network adapter family and was used to add LAN (Local Area Network) connectivity to PS/2 systems in enterprise and institutional environments. These cards enabled networked IBM PS/2 computers to communicate on office and lab networks, making them essential components for systems that were upgraded from standalone to networked operation. Today, these cards are sought after by vintage computer enthusiasts, system restorers, and collectors working to restore IBM PS/2 systems to original or near-original configuration. The card represents the era when MCA was IBM's proprietary high-performance alternative to industry-standard ISA bus architecture.
