Applications
5.25-inch double-sided double-density (DSDD) floppy diskettes were the dominant removable storage medium for personal computers throughout the early-to-mid 1980s. They are formatted to 360 KB on IBM-compatible PCs and work in any 5.25" 40-track double-density drive. Compatible systems include the IBM PC, IBM PC XT, IBM PC AT (in DD mode), Apple II series, TRS-80 Model III and 4, Commodore 64 with 1541 drive, Osborne 1, Kaypro, and many other microcomputers of the era that used 40-track 5.25" drives. Today these are sought by collectors, retro computing enthusiasts, and anyone maintaining vintage hardware that still requires blank 5.25" media for software archiving, disk duplication, or system use.
This IBM 6023450 5.25" 2D Diskette box is factory-sealed and new old stock. As clearly visible in the photos, the original shrink-wrap is intact and the box has never been opened. The box shows minor shelf wear consistent with storage — slight scuffing on the corners and edges of the outer packaging — but the seal is unbroken and the diskettes inside are unused.
