Description

HP Hewlett Packard C7671B ScanJet XPA Transparency Adapter Negatives Slides

The HP C7671B is a ScanJet XPA (Transparency Adapter) designed to let compatible HP flatbed scanners capture digital images from transparent media — including 35mm negatives, slides, and overhead transparencies. The XPA sits on top of the scanner's glass bed and provides its own light source, backlighting the transparent material so the scanner's sensor can capture a proper image. This unit includes the attached proprietary mini-DIN cable that connects directly to the scanner.

Applications

The ScanJet XPA series was HP's solution for home and small-office users who wanted to digitize film media without a dedicated film scanner. By the mid-to-late 1990s, HP's consumer and prosumer ScanJet flatbeds were popular choices for photo scanning, and the XPA transparency adapter extended their capability to handle 35mm negatives and slides — common needs for photographers archiving existing film libraries. The C7671B fits directly over the scanner's platen and works with the scanner's bundled software (such as HP Photo & Imaging or DeskScan) to handle transparency scanning modes. This type of adapter remains useful today for anyone maintaining or restoring a compatible HP ScanJet flatbed to digitize legacy film collections.
