Applications
The HP DeskJet 820Cxi was aimed at home office and small business users in the mid-to-late 1990s who needed color printing capability for Windows PCs. The DeskJet 800 series was HP's answer to growing demand for affordable color output during a period when color inkjet printers were becoming standard desktop peripherals. The parallel IEEE-1284 interface was the dominant printer connection standard of the era, before USB became widespread in the late 1990s. Today, units like this are sought by collectors of vintage computing equipment, users maintaining legacy parallel-port-equipped systems, or hobbyists running period-correct Windows 9x setups. A parallel-to-USB adapter can also allow connection to modern PCs if a compatible Windows driver is available.
This HP DeskJet 820Cxi color inkjet printer (C4531A) has been pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use. The unit has been visually inspected and photographed.
