Applications

The HP C2890A OfficeJet was aimed at small offices and home offices in the mid-to-late 1990s, a period when all-in-one machines were beginning to replace the separate fax machine, copier, and printer found in most offices. It connects to a standard POTS (plain old telephone service) phone line for faxing, and to a PC via parallel port for printing and scanning — the dominant PC interface before USB became standard. Units like the C2890A are still useful today for environments that rely on analog fax lines, or as standalone plain-paper fax and copy machines that require no PC connection. They are also sought by collectors and users maintaining legacy office setups.
