Applications
The TS-H552 is a mid-2000s IDE optical drive typical of the period when DVD writing was becoming standard in desktop PCs. It was widely used in HP Pavilion, HP Compaq, and similar consumer and business desktop systems that shipped with an IDE optical bay. Today these drives are primarily sought as direct replacement units for aging desktop systems still running IDE-based hardware — particularly older HP desktops, home theater PCs, and legacy workstations where SATA optical drives are not compatible with the existing motherboard or power supply configuration. The dual-layer capability allows writing of up to 8.5 GB per disc, which was a significant feature at launch.
