Description

HP 27209-60003 HP-IB GPIB Interface Card 8-Bit ISA Bus PC Controller Board

The HP 27209-60003 is an HP-IB (Hewlett-Packard Interface Bus) controller card for 8-bit ISA bus personal computers. HP-IB is Hewlett-Packard's implementation of the IEEE-488 standard instrument bus — also widely known as GPIB (General Purpose Interface Bus). This card allows an IBM PC or compatible to communicate with and control HP-IB/GPIB-equipped test and measurement instruments over the standardized 24-pin parallel bus.

Applications

HP-IB/GPIB interface cards like the 27209-60003 were a staple of laboratory and test-bench automation in the 1980s and into the 1990s. By plugging into the ISA bus of an IBM PC or compatible, the card gave the PC controller access to the IEEE-488 instrument bus, allowing it to program, trigger, and read data from GPIB-equipped instruments — HP signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, multimeters, and similar bench equipment — over a single standardized cable and bus. A single GPIB bus supports up to 15 devices in a daisy-chain, making it well suited to automated test systems where a PC must sequence measurements across multiple instruments. This card is specifically designed for the 8-bit ISA slot found in the original IBM PC and PC/XT, and is also compatible with the PC/AT's 16-bit ISA slots in 8-bit mode. Today these cards remain in demand for maintaining legacy automated test equipment (ATE) setups and for interfacing vintage HP/Agilent/Keysight instruments to period-correct PC hardware.

Condition: Used
This Hewlett-Packard 27209-60003 HP-IB GPIB ISA interface card has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in service. The PCB shows normal handling wear consistent with age; the IEEE-488 connector and ISA edge contacts appear clean and intact.
