Description
HP 1631D Logic Analyzer 43-Ch State 100 MHz Timing 50 MHz Oscilloscope HP-IB
The HP 1631D is a benchtop combinational logic analyzer that integrates three instruments in one: a 43-channel state analyzer, a 16-channel 100 MHz timing analyzer, and a 50 MHz dual-trace digitizing oscilloscope. It is an upgraded version of the HP 1630, with expanded channel width providing 43 state channels and 16 timing channels compared to the earlier 1630 configuration. HP-IB and HP-IL interfaces allow connection to external disk drives and hard copy output devices.

Applications
The HP 1631D was designed for digital hardware debug and verification work in electronics labs, R&D environments, and production test. Logic analyzers of this class were the standard tools for engineers developing and troubleshooting microprocessor-based systems in the 1980s and early 1990s — capturing bus cycles, state sequences, and timing relationships that an oscilloscope alone could not display meaningfully. The HP 1630/1631 series was particularly well regarded for its integrated oscilloscope, which let engineers correlate analog signal behavior with digital state data on a single instrument. The 10269A/B interface modules and 103XX probe family allowed direct connection to a wide range of popular microprocessors of the era, simplifying bus analysis without custom fixture work. These instruments remain sought after for legacy system maintenance, vintage computer restoration, and labs that work with older embedded hardware where period-accurate tooling is an advantage.
This HP 1631D Logic Analyzer has not been powered up or tested at our facility, but it came out of a working environment where it was previously in use. The unit appears to be in good used condition overall. Two HP probe pods are included as shown in the photos. The CRT display, front-panel keypad, and BNC oscilloscope inputs appear intact with no obvious physical damage. Normal cosmetic wear consistent with used bench equipment may be present.
