Description
Hollywood Film Company FS-816 16mm Hot Splicer Vintage Film Editing Tool No Tray
The Hollywood Film Company FS-816 is a vintage benchtop hot splicer designed for editing 16mm motion picture film. Hot splicers like the FS-816 work by using heat and film cement to create a chemically bonded splice between two film ends, scraping the emulsion from the overlap area before applying cement and pressing the join together under heat and pressure. This type of splice was the professional standard for 16mm film editing through much of the mid-20th century. This unit is being sold as-is for parts or repair and is missing its tray.

Applications
The Hollywood Film Company was a well-known manufacturer of film editing and laboratory equipment based in New York and Chicago, producing tools for professional film labs, post-production facilities, and broadcast operations from roughly the 1940s through the 1970s. The FS-816 hot splicer was used in 16mm film editing workflows — primarily in news, documentary, industrial, and educational film production, where 16mm was the standard format for non-theatrical work. Hot splicing with film cement was the dominant technique before tape splicing gained ground in the 1960s and 1970s, and before non-linear digital editing made physical splicing obsolete in the 1990s. Today these tools are sought by film collectors, archivists, film schools, and enthusiasts working with vintage 16mm equipment, as well as by shops that restore or service older editing machinery.
This Hollywood Film Company FS-816 16mm Hot Splicer is being sold as-is for parts or repair. The unit has not been tested and no functionality is guaranteed. It is missing its tray. Visually, the cast aluminum base shows significant age — there is surface corrosion and paint wear across the top platform, and the tray well shows heavy discoloration and oxidation. The splicing head mechanism shows similar age wear including paint loss and what appears to be rust staining on the central splicing block. The yellow positioning knob is present. A standard 3-prong US power cord is attached and included. The nameplate on the front edge is intact and legible, showing the Hollywood Film Company branding, New York/Chicago location text, and the FS-816 model designation. This is a vintage unit and is sold strictly as-is — it may be useful for parts, restoration, or display. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions. Please note: We have multiple units in stock — yours may not be the one shown in the photos, however, it will be similar in condition and function.
