Applications

The GD-2500 is a late-1990s IDE DVD-ROM drive from Hitachi's early DVD lineup, released around the time DVD-ROM was just becoming standard in desktop PCs. Drives like this were used in tower and desktop computers running Windows 98, Windows 2000, and early Windows XP, and were common in office and consumer systems from roughly 1998–2001. The IDE/ATAPI interface was the dominant optical drive interface of that era before SATA took over in the mid-2000s. Today, units like this are sought by collectors restoring period-correct builds, hobbyists maintaining legacy PCs, or technicians needing a parts source for compatible IDE drives. The analog audio output was a standard feature of the era, allowing CD audio to route directly to a sound card's CD-in header before digital audio extraction became universal.
