The HP 54002A is a 50 ohm, 1 GHz BNC input pod designed for use with Hewlett-Packard digitizing oscilloscopes and the HP 54300A Probe Multiplexer. It provides a properly terminated 50 ohm signal path at the oscilloscope input, allowing accurate high-frequency signal acquisition up to 1 GHz without the impedance mismatch and reflections that occur with a standard 1 MΩ input. This unit includes the original HP 54002A Operating Note dated April 1986.

Applications
The HP 54002A input pod is used with HP's 54100-series digitizing oscilloscopes — instruments introduced in the mid-1980s that were among the first high-speed digitizing scopes capable of capturing fast single-shot and repetitive signals at gigahertz bandwidths. By presenting a true 50 ohm termination directly at the oscilloscope's input module, the 54002A eliminates standing waves and ensures the signal integrity needed for accurate high-frequency measurements in RF, microwave, digital, and pulse-circuit work. It was designed to replace or supplement the standard 1 MΩ input pod when measuring low-impedance sources such as RF signal generators, transmission lines, or high-speed logic drivers. These pods remain useful today for anyone maintaining or operating a 54100A, 54100D, or 54110D oscilloscope, as the 50 ohm input module is often a wear item or is simply missing from used instruments found on the surplus market.
This Hewlett-Packard HP 54002A 50 Ohm Input Pod has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use. The pod body shows normal light wear consistent with lab use; the BNC connector and rear interface pins appear clean and intact as seen in the photos.
