Description

HP Hewlett Packard 180A Oscilloscope 1821A Time Base Delay Generator For Parts

The Hewlett-Packard 180A is a vintage modular analog oscilloscope mainframe from HP's classic 180-series instrument line, designed to accept interchangeable plug-in modules for vertical amplifiers, time bases, and delay generators. This listing includes the 180A mainframe together with the HP 1821A Time Base and Delay Generator plug-in installed. The unit is being sold AS-IS for parts or repair: the CRT is not responsive, and when powered, only the orange RESET indicator on the 1821A illuminates. Orange light is also visible through the side ventilation holes of the chassis. No other functionality has been verified.

Applications

The HP 180-series oscilloscopes were HP's professional-grade modular benchtop oscilloscope platform of the late 1960s and 1970s, widely used in electronics laboratories, R&D, and production test environments. The modular architecture allowed users to configure the instrument with different vertical amplifier and time base plug-ins to suit specific measurement tasks. The 1821A Time Base and Delay Generator plug-in provided main and delayed sweep capability with precise time-per-division control, making the combination useful for time-interval measurements, pulse analysis, and waveform timing work. Today these instruments are primarily sought by vintage test equipment collectors, restorers, and technicians with the skills to rehabilitate classic HP analog oscilloscopes. Replacement CRTs and service documentation are occasionally available through vintage instrument communities, making a mainframe-and-plug-in lot like this a worthwhile parts or restoration source.

Condition: For Parts or Not Working
This Hewlett-Packard HP 180A Oscilloscope with 1821A Time Base and Delay Generator is being sold AS-IS for parts or repair. The CRT is not responsive — no trace or display is produced. When powered, only the orange RESET indicator on the 1821A front panel illuminates; orange lighting is also visible through the side ventilation holes of the chassis. The unit has not been tested beyond this observation and is not guaranteed functional in any other respect. Both the 180A mainframe and the 1821A Time Base and Delay Generator plug-in are included. Cosmetically the units show typical wear for vintage test equipment of this era — general surface scuffing and patina consistent with age and lab use.
