Applications
The Heidenhain LIF series linear encoders are used in precision CNC machine tools — including milling machines, lathes, grinding machines, and machining centers — as well as in metrology equipment, semiconductor manufacturing stages, and precision motion systems. They provide high-resolution incremental position feedback along a linear axis, pairing with a Heidenhain linear scale (glass or steel tape) that is mounted on the machine bed or carriage. The readhead travels along the scale and feeds position data to a Heidenhain TNC or iTNC CNC controller, a digital readout display (DRO), or a third-party motion controller via the encoder interface. The LIF 10 in particular is a lower-profile exposed linear encoder suited to retrofits and space-constrained axis installations. This Heidenhain LIF 10 Linear Encoder (Id.Nr. 275 222) was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in service. It has not been powered or tested at our facility. The encoder body, L-bracket mounting assembly, and attached cable are all present. Photos show surface rust and age patina on the steel L-bracket, which is cosmetically worn but structurally sound. The encoder readhead housing appears clean and intact. The 9-pin circular output connector shows light dust and oxidation on the gold contacts, consistent with storage.
