This is a complete Heidenhain rotary encoder positioning system consisting of the EXE 702B 700 Series Encoder Interface Unit, a Heidenhain ROD 456-900 rotary encoder, a custom 195mm precision rotating stage on a raised platform, and two Parker Compumotor S/SX 57-83 indexing/stepping drives. The system was pulled from a working environment and includes the associated cabling and connectors as shown in the photos.

Applications
The Heidenhain EXE 700 series encoder interface units are signal conditioning and interpolation electronics designed to work with Heidenhain incremental encoders such as the ROD 456 series. The EXE 702B conditions the raw encoder signals from the ROD 456-900 rotary encoder and outputs interpolated position data to a host motion controller or CNC system. The ROD 456 series rotary encoders are precision optical incremental encoders widely used in precision motion control, semiconductor wafer handling, optical alignment stages, metrology equipment, and laboratory automation. The 900-line-count ROD 456-900 provides high-resolution angular position feedback suited to demanding positioning tasks. Custom rotary stages of this type — built around a precision encoder ring and driven by stepping motors — are commonly found in semiconductor inspection and processing tools, optical test benches, and research lab automation systems. The Parker Compumotor S/SX 57-83 stepping drives are NEMA 23-frame microstepping drives used to control the stepper motors that actuate the stage. Together, this system represents a capable closed-loop or open-loop precision rotary positioning platform suitable for optical, semiconductor, or scientific instrumentation applications.
This Heidenhain EXE 702B Encoder Interface and ROD 456-900 Rotary Stage Positioning System has been inspected and appears to be in good condition. The system was pulled from a working environment. The EXE 702B interface enclosure shows normal light use wear; the Heidenhain logo and all panel markings are clean and legible. The rotary stage assembly and platform appear intact with no obvious damage visible in the photos. Associated cabling, DB9 connectors, and multi-pin circular cables are present as shown.
