Description
IEEE-488 GPIB 8-Bit ISA Card 01000-60300 NEC Controller PC/AT Instrument Bus
The 01000-60300 is an 8-bit ISA bus IEEE-488 (GPIB / HP-IB) controller card that allows IBM PC, PC/XT, and PC/AT-class computers to communicate with instruments and peripherals connected to an IEEE-488 instrument bus. The card installs into any 8-bit or 16-bit ISA expansion slot and provides a standard 24-pin IEEE-488 D-sub bracket connector for direct instrument hookup. A NEC controller IC drives the interface logic.

Applications
IEEE-488, also known as GPIB (General Purpose Interface Bus) or HP-IB, is the instrument interconnect standard originally developed by Hewlett-Packard in the late 1960s and formally standardized as IEEE-488 in 1975. It was the dominant standard for connecting laboratory instruments — oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, and programmable test equipment — to a controlling computer in automated test and measurement setups. ISA-bus GPIB cards like this one were the standard way to add IEEE-488 capability to IBM PC/XT/AT-class systems throughout the 1980s and into the 1990s, before PCI and USB-based GPIB adapters became common. Today these cards are sought by engineers and technicians maintaining or operating legacy IEEE-488 instruments that still require an ISA-bus host controller, or by vintage computing enthusiasts building period-correct instrumentation setups. Compatible instruments include virtually any device bearing an IEEE-488, GPIB, or HP-IB port from that era.
This IEEE-488 GPIB 8-Bit ISA Controller Card (P/N 01000-60300) was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use. It has been visually inspected and photographed. The PCB appears clean with no visible cracks, burnt components, or obvious physical damage. Some light surface oxidation or minor shelf wear typical of vintage ISA-era hardware may be present — please review all photos carefully. Contact us with any questions before purchasing.
