Applications
The TelePort/Bronze was part of Global Village Communication's popular TelePort product family, which were the go-to external modems for Macintosh users throughout the early-to-mid 1990s. The A861 was specifically designed for the Macintosh Performa series — Apple's consumer-oriented Mac line sold primarily through retail channels from 1992 through 1997. It connects through the Mac's built-in serial port, which was the standard peripheral interface for Macs of that era before USB arrived with the iMac in 1998. Global Village modems were notable for their tight software integration with Mac OS and were among the best-regarded modem brands in the Mac community at the time. Today these units are sought by collectors and enthusiasts maintaining vintage Performa systems, as well as anyone running legacy Mac OS software that requires a period-correct dial-up modem. Compatible Performa models span a wide range of the lineup from the early 6200 and 5200 series through the later Performa 640 and similar machines that used the standard Mac serial port.
This Global Village TelePort Bronze A861 Macintosh Performa modem has been inspected and is in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it was in active use. The beige enclosure shows light surface scuffing and general age-related wear consistent with prior use. The rear panel ports — including the Mini-DIN serial connector and both RJ-11C phone line jacks — appear intact and undamaged. A green LED indicator is visible on the side. The attached serial cable is included. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions. Please note: We have multiple units in stock — yours may not be the one shown in the photos, however, it will be similar in condition and function.
