This is a new old stock Global Solar P3 Portable Power Pack — a 42-watt, 24-volt foldable CIGS thin-film solar panel developed for the US military. Built by Global Solar Energy (Tucson, AZ), these panels were designed as a lightweight, portable 24V battery charger for field operations. They use copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) thin-film cells encapsulated in ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene), a durable fluoropolymer film that offers superior UV and weathering resistance compared to standard PET-backed flexible panels. The panels are factory seconds from Global Solar's P3 Division and have been in conditioned storage since approximately 2014; they are new and unused but may show minor cosmetic artifacts from the manufacturing process or from years of storage and handling.

Applications
The Global Solar P3 Portable Power Pack was developed specifically for US military field use as a lightweight, packable 24V battery charger — designed to recharge vehicle batteries and power 24V field electronics in austere environments. The CIGS thin-film technology offers a meaningful advantage over conventional crystalline silicon in portable applications: CIGS cells maintain better output under low-light and high-temperature conditions and can be integrated into flexible, foldable substrates far more effectively than rigid silicon wafers. The ETFE encapsulation makes these panels substantially more durable and longer-lived than standard PET-laminated flexible panels, which is why the design was chosen for military procurement. MIL-STD-810E qualification means the panels passed the US Army's suite of environmental tests covering temperature extremes, humidity, vibration, and shock. Beyond military use, these panels are well-suited for off-grid and expedition applications where size and weight matter: vehicle battery maintenance, remote communications, and portable 24V charging in the field. Because the output is unregulated, a charge controller or battery is required in the circuit — these panels should not be connected directly to sensitive electronics.

They are factory seconds, meaning they may have small cosmetic artifacts from the original manufacturing process as well as minor surface wear from years of storage and handling since 2014. They have been kept in conditioned storage and are otherwise new and unused — never installed or deployed. Cosmetically, the panels appear clean overall; the desert camo fabric and CIGS cell surfaces are intact on the units photographed. Because these are factory seconds, buyers should expect the possibility of minor blemishes such as small marks, wrinkles, or surface artifacts on the fabric or laminate — these do not affect electrical function.
