Description
General Monitors Model 180 Gas Detection Modules Lot of 4 in Rack 1801000
This lot consists of four General Monitors Model 180 gas detection modules mounted in a steel rack chassis. The Model 180 is an analog combustible or toxic gas detection instrument module designed for industrial hazardous-area monitoring. Each module features an analog percentage meter, HIGH/LOW/NORM alarm indicators, MALF (malfunction) indicator, SPAN and ZERO calibration controls, and latching/non-latching reset functions. Part number 1801000 is stamped on the module nameplate, which also identifies manufacture in Costa Mesa, California. This lot is sold AS-IS for parts or repair — we were unable to test the units and there is visible corrosion on the rack and significant oxidation on the rear screw terminal connections.

Applications
The General Monitors Model 180 is a modular analog gas detection instrument from the company's early industrial monitoring product line, manufactured in the United States (Costa Mesa, California) during the era when General Monitors was establishing itself as a specialist in flame and gas detection for oil and gas, petrochemical, and industrial plant applications. Systems like the Model 180 are used to monitor facility air for the presence of combustible or toxic gases, triggering HIGH and LOW alarms when concentrations cross set thresholds and indicating a MALF (malfunction) fault if the sensor or circuit fails. The rack-mount modular format allowed multiple gas detection points to be monitored from a single panel — typical in refineries, chemical plants, offshore platforms, and industrial facilities where continuous area monitoring is required. These units are now primarily of interest for parts recovery, repair of existing Model 180 installations, or display/reference purposes, as the technology has largely been superseded by newer digital detection systems.
This General Monitors Model 180 gas detection module rack (lot of 4 modules, P/N 1801000) is being sold AS-IS for parts or repair. We were unable to test these units. There is visible corrosion on the rack chassis and significant oxidation on the rear terminal block connections, as shown in our photos. The front panels appear structurally intact with meters, indicator lights, and controls present, but the corrosion on the terminals means electrical functionality cannot be assumed. This lot is intended for parts recovery, repair, or reference. Please view our full photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
