Applications
The Quantum Fireball series was one of the most widely used desktop hard drive lines of the late 1990s, found in Gateway, Compaq, Dell, and HP consumer desktops of the era as both factory-installed and upgrade drives. The Fireball EX was the enhanced version of the line, aimed at mainstream desktop use during a period when 5–10GB drives represented the upper end of the consumer market. These drives connect via the 40-pin parallel ATA (PATA/IDE) interface, which was the dominant desktop storage standard from the mid-1980s through the mid-2000s before SATA took over.
