Applications
V.34 was the dominant analog modem standard of the mid-1990s, pushing dial-up speeds to 33.6 Kbps over standard public switched telephone lines before V.90 and V.92 raised the ceiling to 56 Kbps. External serial modems like this one were widely used with both Mac and PC systems for internet access, BBS connections, fax transmission, and remote terminal sessions. The DB-25 connector was the standard serial interface on Macs and many PCs of that era. This type of modem is primarily of interest today for maintaining legacy systems, connecting to older BBS or dial-up services, industrial or SCADA equipment that uses POTS modem communication, or as a collectible piece of 1990s networking history.
This Fast Mac V.34 external dial-up modem has been pulled from a working environment and visually inspected. It has not been powered up or tested at our facility. The housing is cream/beige in color and appears to be in good used condition with light surface wear typical of equipment its age.
