Applications
NuBus was Apple's proprietary expansion bus used in Macintosh computers from the late 1980s through the mid-1990s, including the Mac II, IIx, IIcx, IIci, IIfx, and the early Quadra and Centris lines. In that era, many of these machines shipped without built-in Ethernet, and third-party NuBus cards from vendors like Farallon were the standard way to add wired network access. Farallon Computing was one of the most widely used networking brands in the Apple ecosystem during this period — their EtherMac cards are commonly found in legacy Mac IIx, IIfx, and Quadra systems still maintained for retro computing, classic Mac OS software preservation, and educational environments running vintage software. The dual RJ-45/AUI bracket allows connection to both modern 10Base-T hubs and older AUI (thicknet/thinnet transceiver) infrastructure. These cards are sought after today for restoring NuBus Macs to network functionality.
This Farallon EtherMac NuBus Adapter (896071 4-00-02) has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The card was pulled from a working Macintosh environment where it was previously in use. It has not been powered up or tested at our facility. The PCB is clean with no visible damage, broken traces, or missing components; normal handling and storage wear is present consistent with a used card of this era.
