The EXFO FTB-8510 Packet Blazer is a plug-in Ethernet test module for the EXFO FTB-400 Universal Test System platform. It provides service-level agreement (SLA) verification and end-to-end performance testing for Ethernet-based packet services, supporting copper and fiber interfaces across 10, 100, and 1000 Mb/s speeds. Dual test ports allow simultaneous traffic generation and capture at 100% wire speed in full-duplex mode.

Applications
The FTB-8510 Packet Blazer is used by telecom carriers, network service providers, and enterprise network engineers to verify Ethernet service quality and confirm SLA compliance on Ethernet-based packet networks. It is well suited for testing LAN-to-LAN services delivered over a wide range of transport technologies — from switched Ethernet and VLANs to DWDM and dark fiber. The dual test ports make it practical for back-to-back lab benchmarking of Ethernet switching and routing equipment, while the Dual TestSet capability supports single-ended remote testing without a second technician at the far end. EtherBERT adds BER testing capability for circuits where physical-layer integrity needs to be confirmed alongside higher-layer performance. The FTB-400 platform, introduced in the early 2000s, became a widely deployed modular field tester in carrier Ethernet and metro Ethernet rollout and maintenance workflows.
This EXFO FTB-8510 Packet Blazer Ethernet Test Module has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in service. The front panel shows normal cosmetic wear consistent with field use; both test ports and SFP slots appear intact and undamaged. It has not been powered up or bench-tested at our facility.
