Exabyte EXB-8200 2.2GB 8mm SCSI Tape Drive 5.25 Half-Height EXB8200
The Exabyte EXB-8200 is a 5.25-inch half-height internal 8mm SCSI tape drive with a native storage capacity of 2.2 GB. It uses standard 8mm Data8 tape cartridges and connects via a SCSI interface, making it compatible with a wide range of workstations and servers that were equipped with SCSI host adapters during the late 1980s and 1990s. The EXB-8200 was Exabyte's foundational 8mm tape drive model and was widely adopted as a cost-effective solution for Unix workstation and minicomputer backup.

Applications
The EXB-8200 was introduced in the late 1980s and became one of the most widely used backup drives in Unix workstation environments, supporting platforms such as Sun Microsystems SPARCstations, HP Apollo workstations, DEC VAX and Alpha systems, and Silicon Graphics IRIX machines. The 8mm tape format — originally developed from consumer Video8 camcorder technology — offered significantly higher capacity than the QIC drives common at the time, making it a preferred choice for data center backup and archiving through the early to mid-1990s. Today the EXB-8200 is sought by organizations maintaining legacy Unix or SCSI-based systems and by archivists needing to read back 8mm tape archives created on this or compatible Exabyte hardware. It requires a SCSI host adapter and an 8mm Data8 tape cartridge for operation.
This Exabyte EXB-8200 8mm SCSI tape drive has been pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use. It has been visually inspected and photographed. The metal chassis shows the typical light oxidation and handling wear you would expect on used surplus equipment of this vintage. No cracks or major physical damage are visible.
