Applications
QIC (Quarter-Inch Cartridge) streaming tape drives like the Everex Excel Stream 60 were the standard backup solution for IBM PC, PC/XT, and PC/AT systems throughout the mid-to-late 1980s. Before affordable removable media like CD-R and DAT became common, QIC tape was widely used in small businesses and workstations to back up hard drives ranging from 10 MB to 60 MB — the typical range of the era. The BX830 connects externally, making it compatible with a wide range of IBM PC-compatible desktops without requiring an internal drive bay. Today these drives are sought by vintage computing enthusiasts and IT historians restoring period-accurate IBM PC setups, as well as anyone needing to recover data from old QIC-60 tapes. The dual-voltage power supply (110–240V) reflects Everex's international product line from that period.
This Everex BX830 Excel Stream 60 external QIC-60 streaming tape drive has been pulled from a working environment and visually inspected. The white plastic enclosure is in good shape with normal age-related yellowing and light surface scuffing typical of late-1980s equipment. The tape drive slot, front LED indicator, and rear Centronics host connector all appear intact and undamaged. The rear panel voltage selector and IEC power inlet show no damage. As with all vintage tape backup equipment, we recommend inspecting all photos and contacting us with any questions before purchasing.
