The BTC 1853L is a 16-bit ISA sound card built around the ESS ES1868F AudioDrive chipset. It provides stereo audio input and output along with an integrated DB-15 game/MIDI port, making it a single-card solution for audio and joystick connectivity in ISA-equipped systems. The card carries a secondary model designation of 1857L and is CE96 certified. A secondary IC, the YM UTC2025 CM100, is also present on the PCB.

Applications
The ESS ES1868F AudioDrive was a widely used ISA audio chipset in the mid-to-late 1990s, found in many OEM and aftermarket sound cards targeting the budget and mid-range PC market. Cards of this type were designed for ISA-slot desktop PCs running MS-DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, and in some cases Windows XP, and were commonly used for game audio, MIDI playback via the game port, and general multimedia functions. They are used today primarily in retro computing builds, vintage DOS gaming rigs, and legacy industrial or embedded PC systems that require ISA-based audio. The integrated game port supports standard analog joysticks and compatible MIDI adapters.
This ESS BTC 1853L 16-Bit ISA Sound Card has been tested at our facility on a Windows XP testbed and confirmed to produce audio output. No additional features beyond audio output have been tested. The card shows normal light wear consistent with prior use and storage.
