Applications
The Eppendorf 5415 series microcentrifuge is a standard fixture in molecular biology, biochemistry, and clinical research labs. It is used for pelleting cell debris, precipitating proteins, clarifying lysates, spinning down DNA/RNA samples, and separating phases in microvolume preparations — all in standard 1.5 mL and 2.0 mL Eppendorf-style microtubes. The 5415C was introduced in the late 1980s and remained widely used through the 1990s; its simple mechanical timer and speed dial made it reliable and easy to maintain. Replacement motor brushes (Brinkmann order no. 22 33 527-4) are noted on the rating plate, making ongoing service straightforward. This class of compact microcentrifuge remains in active use in labs that process small-volume samples and need a dedicated, always-ready benchtop unit.
This Eppendorf 5415C variable-speed microcentrifuge has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The yellow housing shows age-related discoloration consistent with a unit manufactured in 1991, and there is some surface scuffing and paint wear visible around the power switch area on the side panel. The rotor is installed and present, the timer and speed control knobs are intact, and the green power indicator and pulse button are in place. The unit was pulled from a working lab environment.
