The EOSI ECU-2010A is an external cavity tunable diode laser (ECDL) system made by Environmental Optical Sensors, Inc. (EOSI) of Boulder, Colorado. It pairs a compact external-cavity laser head with the 2010-ECU controller/power supply unit, which provides temperature control, current drive, piezo tuning, wavelength readout, and full GPIB remote control in a single integrated package. The laser achieves narrow linewidth through a Littrow or Littman-type external cavity configuration using a precision diffraction grating as the wavelength-selective feedback element.

Applications
External cavity diode lasers of this type are used wherever a narrow-linewidth, continuously tunable coherent light source is required. The ECU-2010A is well suited for laser absorption spectroscopy — including trace gas detection and atmospheric or environmental sensing (the application its manufacturer, Environmental Optical Sensors, was founded around). Other common uses include atomic and molecular physics experiments, optical frequency metrology, optical coherence characterization, pump-probe spectroscopy, and laser cooling and trapping research. The GPIB interface allows full computer control of wavelength, current, temperature, and modulation parameters, making it straightforward to integrate into automated spectroscopy or characterization setups. External cavity lasers achieve much narrower linewidths and wider continuous tuning ranges than free-running diode lasers by using optical feedback from a diffraction grating to select a single longitudinal mode; coarse wavelength tuning is done by rotating the grating (via piezo or stepper), while fine and fast tuning is done by modulating the diode current or the piezo. This combination of narrow linewidth, wide tunability, and GPIB programmability made instruments like the ECU-2010A standard tools in spectroscopy labs and environmental monitoring research throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
This EOSI ECU-2010A External Cavity Tunable Diode Laser system has been pulled from a working optical research environment and is being offered in used condition. The unit includes the laser head and the 2010-ECU controller/power supply, connected by the original control and laser interconnect cables. The owner's manual is also included, as shown in the photos. Cosmetically, both the laser head and controller show light wear consistent with lab use — minor scuffing on the enclosures, with no significant damage observed. The internal optical cavity, visible in our photos with the laser head cover removed, shows the diffraction grating, prism, beam splitter, and diode module assembly, which appear intact and undamaged. A sticker on the front panel indicates a typical operating point of 55mA / 23.6°C / 60V, consistent with the laser diode module (EOSI DMD-852-015, Iop max 75mA). This system has not been powered on or bench-tested at our facility. Please review all photos carefully and contact us with any questions before purchasing.
