Applications

The Links 1000 was designed for residential and commercial security installations where cellular communication was needed as the primary or backup path for alarm reporting. It connected to a DSC or compatible alarm control panel via the standard RJ31X telephone interface and transmitted alarm events to a Sur-Gard or compatible central station receiver over the cellular network. This type of cellular alarm communicator became important in the late 1990s and early 2000s as installers sought alternatives to POTS (plain old telephone service) lines, which could be cut or unavailable. The Links 1000 was part of Sur-Gard's early cellular communicator lineup and was positioned for use in both new installations and retrofits of existing hardwired security systems. Because the cellular frequency band this unit used has since been retired by the FCC, it is no longer operable in the field as a live communicator; it is of interest today as new old stock for collectors of early cellular alarm hardware, as a reference unit, or for legacy parts.
