The Digi PORTS/8em is an 8-port asynchronous RS-232 serial concentrator designed to expand the serial port capacity of a host system via Digi's EBI (Ethernet Bus Interface) daisy-chain connection. The unit presents 8 DB25 RS-232 serial ports to connected devices and communicates upstream to the host adapter through its dual EBI DB25 IN/OUT connectors. Eight DB25 serial cables are included; no power supply is included with this unit.

Applications
The Digi PORTS/8em was designed to work with Digi International's EtherLite and similar EBI-based host adapter products, allowing a single host connection to drive a bank of RS-232 serial devices — terminals, modems, printers, serial instruments, or other asynchronous serial equipment. Multiple PORTS/8em units can be daisy-chained via the EBI IN/OUT connectors to further expand port counts. These units were widely used in Unix and Linux server environments, industrial control systems, and multiuser computing setups from the 1990s onward, where large numbers of serial devices needed to be connected to a central host. RS-232 serial concentrators of this type remain in use today in legacy industrial, telecom, and embedded environments where DB25 serial connectivity is still required.
This Digi PORTS/8em 8-Port DB25 RS-232 Serial Concentrator (P/N 50000478) was pulled from a working operational environment where it was previously in use. The unit has been visually inspected and photographed. The dark gray enclosure shows normal light wear consistent with prior use. All 8 DB25 serial cables are included.
