Applications
The Dell PowerEdge 1850 was a mainstream 1U server aimed at web hosting, application serving, and database workloads in the mid-2000s. Its dual-socket Intel Xeon architecture made it a common choice for small and mid-sized businesses building out rack infrastructure, as well as colocation facilities and university computing labs. The hot-swap drive bays and redundant power supplies gave it a level of fault tolerance expected in production environments. Today the 1850 is used for light workloads, homelab and test environments, legacy application support, and parts sourcing — the Ultra320 SCSI backplane and hot-swap PSU bays remain serviceable in shops that still run older SCSI-based storage. Introduced in 2004–2005, the PowerEdge 1850 was part of Dell's 8xx/1850 generation that bridged the Xeon Prestonia/Nocona era before the transition to dual-core and multi-core server processors.
This Dell PowerEdge 1850 Dual Xeon 1U Rackmount Server has had its basic components tested and confirmed good by our staff. The two Seagate ST336753LC Ultra U320 SCSI hard drives have been wiped and formatted — no operating system is included. The chassis shows typical wear for its age, including light scuffing and surface marks on the top lid and front bezel. Both Dell AA23300 550W redundant power supply units are installed and present.
