Applications
The WD Caviar series was one of the most widely deployed IDE hard drive families of the mid-to-late 1990s, found in Dell OptiPlex, Dimension, and Precision desktops as well as a broad range of IBM-compatible PCs from other manufacturers. The AC24300's 4.3 GB capacity was a common mid-range desktop configuration of the late 1990s, fitting within the 4.2 GB INT13 BIOS addressing limit that many systems of the era imposed without a BIOS update or overlay software. Today, drives like this are used primarily for restoring or maintaining period-correct legacy systems — particularly vintage DOS, Windows 95/98, and Windows NT workstations — where a contemporary hard drive would exceed the system BIOS's LBA addressing capacity. The standard 40-pin IDE interface and Molex power connector are compatible with any IDE-equipped desktop or external IDE enclosure from the era.
This Western Digital WD Caviar AC24300 4.3GB IDE hard drive has been tested, formatted, and wiped at our facility and is in good working condition. All previous data has been securely erased. The drive shows normal cosmetic wear consistent with prior use — the top label and metal casing are intact and legible with no significant damage.
