Applications

The NEC ND-1100A was among the early generation of DVD+R/RW writers released around 2002–2003, when DVD recordable drives were beginning to replace CD-RW as the standard for desktop optical storage. IDE-interface DVD burners like this one were standard equipment in desktop PCs of the Pentium 4 and Athlon XP era, fitting into any 5.25-inch drive bay and connecting to the motherboard's secondary IDE channel. The ND-1100A supported the DVD+R and DVD+RW formats backed by the DVD+RW Alliance, as distinct from the competing DVD-R/RW format. These drives are still useful today for legacy desktop systems that require an IDE optical drive, as well as for hobbyists maintaining period-correct builds or older workstations that predate SATA.
