Applications
External SCSI enclosures like this DataStor unit were a standard solution from the late 1980s through the late 1990s for adding removable or supplemental storage to workstations, servers, and desktop computers equipped with a SCSI host adapter. They were commonly used with Apple Macintosh systems, Sun workstations, and SCSI-equipped PCs running platforms such as Windows NT, OS/2, and various Unix variants. The dual 50-pin Centronics ports allowed multiple enclosures or devices to be daisy-chained off a single SCSI bus, which was the standard method for expanding SCSI storage capacity at the time. Today these enclosures remain useful for maintaining and servicing legacy SCSI-based systems that still require external storage expansion.
This DataStor External 50-Pin SCSI Hard Drive Enclosure has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The enclosure was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in service. The exterior plastic is clean with minor surface scuffs consistent with normal use. The rear panel connectors, AC outlets, and power switch all appear intact with no visible damage. It has not been powered up or tested at our facility.
