Description
Indiana General 2219D-1B Permanent Magnet DC Motor 50V 4A 6000 RPM Cont Duty
The Indiana General 2219D-1B is a permanent magnet DC motor (PMDC) in a compact cylindrical can form factor. Rated for 50V DC operation at up to 6000 RPM with a continuous duty cycle, it uses a permanent magnet stator to provide stable speed-torque characteristics without the need for field windings. This unit was manufactured by Indiana General — a division later acquired by Litton Industries — and assembled in Mexico.

Applications
Permanent magnet DC motors like the 2219D-1B are widely used in precision motion control, instrumentation drives, medical equipment, office and business machines, and light industrial automation. The PMDC design — where the magnetic field is provided by permanent magnets rather than field windings — gives a linear speed-torque curve and straightforward speed control via simple voltage adjustment or PWM, making these motors well-suited to servo-style applications. Indiana General was a recognized supplier of fractional and sub-fractional horsepower DC motors to aerospace, defense, and industrial OEM customers from the mid-20th century through the Litton era. Motors of this type are still actively sought for repair and replacement in legacy instruments, scientific equipment, and custom drive assemblies where a compact, continuous-duty PMDC motor is needed.
This Indiana General 2219D-1B permanent magnet DC motor has been tested at 24V and runs well. Unloaded test results: 4080 RPM at 0.42A. The motor shows normal wear consistent with prior service use — surface rust is visible on the body (most notably around the mid-section and rear end cap area), and the gray paint shows scuffs and handling marks. The output shaft and front bearing end cap are in good shape. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
