Description
Cyclomatic AVC-2 DR Automatic Voltage Control Welding Torch Drive Unit 1981
The Cyclomatic AVC-2 DR is a motorized linear drive unit designed for use in automatic voltage control (AVC) welding systems made by Cyclomatic Industries Inc. of the USA. In an AVC welding setup, the drive unit automatically moves the welding torch toward or away from the workpiece to maintain a preset arc voltage and consistent arc length during mechanized or automated welding. This unit carries part number AVC-2 DR with a manufacture date of August 1981.

Applications
Cyclomatic Industries produced welding automation equipment primarily for mechanized TIG (GTAW) and plasma arc welding applications in aerospace, pipe welding, and precision fabrication environments. The AVC drive unit is a core component of an automatic voltage control system: during a weld pass, a sensor monitors arc voltage and the drive unit continuously adjusts torch standoff distance to keep voltage — and therefore arc length — constant, which is critical for consistent weld bead geometry and penetration. The AVC-2 was part of Cyclomatic's standard AVC product line from the late 1970s through the 1980s, commonly used in orbital welding fixtures, seam welding carriages, and tube/pipe welding setups. Replacement or spare AVC drive units are sought after by maintenance teams supporting older automated welding cells that still use Cyclomatic AVC systems.
This Cyclomatic AVC-2 DR Automatic Voltage Control Welding Drive Unit is being sold as-is and has not been tested at our facility. The unit has not been powered up or confirmed functional. It shows general wear consistent with age and prior industrial use — the copper-orange control box has surface scuffs and minor soiling, the accordion bellows show wear, and the cabling shows age-related patina. The two directional push buttons, torch clamp, and DC motor appear physically intact. The identification label is legible and confirms manufacture date of August 1981. Sold for parts, repair, or as a project unit with no functionality guarantee. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
