Applications
The ComStream CM101 is a satellite IF modem used in ground-station and VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) satellite communications systems. PSK modems of this type sit between the baseband data equipment and the RF upconverter/downconverter chain, converting digital data streams into IF-frequency PSK-modulated signals for uplink and recovering data from the downlink IF signal. They were widely used in private satellite networks, broadcast contribution links, government/military data links, and enterprise WAN connectivity via satellite throughout the 1980s and 1990s — an era when dedicated satellite bandwidth was the primary means of linking geographically dispersed sites before terrestrial fiber became broadly available. ComStream was a significant manufacturer of satellite modems and related ground-station equipment during this period, and the CM101 represents a typical IF-band modem from that generation. This ComStream CM101 PSK Digital Satellite Modem has been inspected and is in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it was actively in use. The cream-colored front panel shows light surface wear consistent with normal rack use, and the chassis is intact. Both front-panel status LEDs (MOD and DEMOD) are visible in the photos. The rear connectors and BNC ports appear clean and undamaged. The internal boards and Power-One power supply are intact with no obvious damage visible.
