Applications
I-Bus industrial PCs of this era were purpose-built for factory automation, CNC machine control, process monitoring, and other industrial computing applications where a standard desktop PC would not be suitable. The ISA bus was the dominant expansion architecture of the late 1980s through mid-1990s, and I-Bus systems were commonly integrated into CNC machining centers, automated test equipment, and supervisory control systems that required multiple dedicated I/O cards — serial, parallel, network, SCSI storage, and audio/modem channels — all running simultaneously within a single ruggedized chassis. The universal 120/240V power supply made these units suitable for both North American and international industrial installations. Today these systems are sought by facilities maintaining legacy CNC or automation equipment that requires a period-correct ISA-bus industrial PC platform, as well as by collectors of industrial computing hardware.
This I-Bus 4806-1839 Industrial Rackmount Server has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The chassis shows normal wear consistent with prior industrial service use, including some surface oxidation on the rear metal panel. Multiple ISA expansion cards are installed and visible, with labeled I/O brackets for Audio, Modem, Network, Monitor, COM, LPT, SCSI, and Emulator connections. The unit has not been powered up or tested at our facility, but it came out of a working industrial environment where it was previously in use.
