Applications

Laptop docking stations like the Compaq 2855 are used in office and home office environments where a portable computer needs to function as a desktop workstation. These docks were common in the 1990s and early 2000s as a way to extend laptop functionality when working at a fixed location. The docking station provides a single connection point for power, networking, external displays, and peripheral devices, eliminating the need to plug in multiple cables each time the laptop is placed at the desk. This type of expansion solution was particularly useful in environments where users moved between portable and stationary work setups.
