Applications

The GatorCard E/II was designed for the Apple Macintosh II family — including the Mac II, IIx, IIcx, IIci, IIfx, and NuBus-equipped Quadra systems — dating from the late 1980s and early 1990s when NuBus was Apple's primary expansion bus architecture. Cayman Systems was a well-regarded maker of Macintosh networking products in this era, and the GatorCard line allowed Mac II-series machines to connect directly to Ethernet networks while still communicating via AppleTalk protocols through EtherTalk. The BNC connector supported 10BASE-2 thin coax networks common in office environments of that period, while the AUI port could connect to external transceivers for 10BASE-T or other media types. These cards are sought today by vintage Mac collectors and administrators maintaining legacy Macintosh II-era systems that require genuine NuBus Ethernet hardware.
