Applications

The Canon MultiPass line was introduced in the mid-to-late 1990s as Canon's answer to the growing demand for affordable all-in-one office peripherals. The C530 was aimed at small offices and home offices (SOHO) that needed fax capability alongside basic printing and copying without the cost of separate machines. These units connected to a PC via parallel port (and some revisions via early USB), allowing the host computer to drive print and scan jobs while the built-in fax modem handled standalone fax transmission and reception without a PC. Today, MultiPass units like the C530 are primarily sought by collectors of late-1990s computing hardware, vintage office equipment enthusiasts, and anyone maintaining legacy setups that rely on parallel-port peripherals or standalone plain-paper fax machines from that era.
