Applications
This module was used in Cabletron SmartSwitch and related chassis-based switches during the 1990s for fiber optic inter-repeater links and backbone connections. FOIRL protocol supported distances up to 2 km over multimode fiber. Typical deployments connected network segments and switches in medium-to-large enterprise environments where fiber connectivity was required.
