The Cabletron FOT-F24 is an IEEE 802.3-compliant fiber optic transceiver that converts between an AUI (Attachment Unit Interface) connection and a 10Base-FL or 10Base-FOIRL fiber optic link. It connects to an Ethernet network interface card or hub via a standard DB15 AUI port and passes 10 Mbps Ethernet traffic over multi-mode fiber optic cable. The integrated LanView® LED array provides real-time link status and diagnostic visibility directly on the unit.

Applications
The FOT-F24 was designed for 10 Mbps Ethernet networks where a fiber optic segment is needed between AUI-equipped devices — typically to extend distance beyond the 100-meter limit of coaxial or twisted-pair copper, or to provide electrical isolation between buildings. Cabletron Systems was a major networking equipment manufacturer of the late 1980s and 1990s, and the FOT-F24 dates from that era of structured wiring and campus networking when 10Base-FL fiber runs were standard practice for inter-building links. It connects to any device with a standard AUI port: network interface cards, hubs, switches, or repeaters of the period. The 10Base-FL and 10Base-FOIRL standards it supports were the predominant IEEE 802.3 fiber standards before Fast Ethernet (100Base-FX) became widespread in the mid-1990s. These transceivers are still sought for maintaining or extending legacy Cabletron and third-party 10 Mbps fiber infrastructure.
This Cabletron FOT-F24 802.3 10Base-FL/FOIRL Fiber Optic Transceiver has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The housing is clean with light surface wear consistent with normal use. The AUI (DB15) LanView adapter cable is attached and the gold pins on the connector show minor oxidation typical of age. A black velcro mounting patch is adhered to the bottom of the unit. The ST fiber optic TX and RX ports are present and appear intact.
