Multi-Tech PM Style RJ-11 to DB9 Serial Cable 4-Wire Telephone Modem Cable

This is a Multi-Tech PM Style adapter cable that converts a 4-wire RJ-11 telephone connector to a 9-pin DB9 serial (RS-232) connector. It is designed for use with Multi-Tech PM series modems and similar devices that use this wiring configuration to bridge a telephone line interface to a standard serial port.

Applications

This cable type is used to connect Multi-Tech PM series external modems and similar telephone-interface devices to a computer's RS-232 serial port. The PM (Phone Modem) series from Multi-Tech Systems used proprietary RJ-11-based connectors for their telephone interface, and this cable provides the correct pinout and termination — including the resistor on two of the DB9 pins — required for proper signaling. Cables of this type are still sought after by users maintaining legacy Multi-Tech modem installations, older telecommunications equipment, and serial-based remote access setups from the 1990s–2000s era.
