Applications

External combo drives like the BCO 2408SU were a popular solution in the early-to-mid 2000s for laptops and slim desktops that lacked a built-in optical drive, or for users who needed a second drive for ripping, burning, or playback without opening their system. The USB interface made the drive easy to share between multiple computers. These drives remain useful today for playing DVDs, burning CD-R audio discs, reading legacy CD-ROM software, and backing up data to optical media — especially on modern ultrabooks and mini-PCs that ship without optical drives.
